This was another case of a couple whose kids had grown up, empty nesters who were excited about the chance to spend more time in New York City. We are big believers in the proper chemistry between designer and architect, and so the chance to work with Jane Sachs of HS2 was particularly exciting for me.
Interestingly, considering the clients were intent on reconnecting with the energy of the city, the objective here was to create a harmonious, 3000 sq. ft. space that exuded tranquility and serenity. So bold colors were eschewed for instead a thoroughly soothing palette throughout - precisely what you might picture when you think of the word “Zen”. Lots of white oak!
It’s a wonderful thing when a client trusts your choices - although we also appreciate when someone feels strongly about being involved in every decision, since this is their home, after all. We built a level of trust over the course of the project, certainly. We were particularly appreciative of having FAIR DESIGN nearby, a gallery representing some of the most notable makers and artists, so the clients were able to leisurely experience the furnishings prior to committing.
“When there is harmony between architect and designer, it’s almost impossible for the project to not be successful.”
