The very name of this legendary Catskills town resonates with distinctly woodsy, bohemian associations - and to be sure, that is still a big part of its overall appeal. But savvy, luxury seeking denizens are now making it their home… so the assignment here was to create a resolutely contemporary home that at the same time invited in the beauty of the surrounding natural landscape.
Materials that conversed sympathetically with the absolutely breathtaking outside scenery were crucial to achieving said harmony. For instance, we utilized local stone for the dividing interior wall - and together with cedar cladding on the walls and handsome slate floors, we achieved the feeling of the interiors feeling seamless connected to the surrounding nature.
The client was an avid collector of Mid-Century furniture. But by purchasing pieces at auction and reupholstering each, we were able to make each feel more aesthetically analogous with the overall setting.
“It’s a truly wonderful thing when my clients take things seriously as I do, because I generally do get a bit obsessive about each project. In this case it was fun - and ultimately incredibly fruitful - to become equally obsessed together.”
