It’s hard to believe that Williamsburg was once a gritty neighborhood where Manhattan artists have decamped to for reasonable rents. Now it strikes the perfect balance for cultured types looking to settle into that first “grown up” apartment, whilst remaining within the midst of Brooklyn’s electric creative energy.

The mission here was not unfamiliar: A couple with a young child in want of pragmatically laid out spaces with a bit of an edgy “industrial chic” aesthetic. Bare beams, exposed pipes, globe lamps and concrete floors make for a resolutely contemporary atmosphere - with even a few quite unexpected elements and slightly bohemian touches - without sacrificing comfort of coziness, especially in the child’s bedroom.

It’s important to point out that this renovation took place during the pandemic - so we employed mostly local craftspeople, it was a very “Brooklyn” project. Naturally, we also wanted to connect the spaces to the vibrant surrounding neighborhood - and so tall windows and terraces allow for regular contemplation of Williamsburg’s ever changing skyline.

“Our aim was to remain playful - it was important for the space to feel young and hip, but also sophisticated.”
